1 & 2 Corinthians - Words for A Failing Church
Paul writes this epistle to the young Church in Corinth, which he founded, because he had heard that since he had left them, they had many problems in the Church. It had become infected by the evils in the world around them. The old ways of life had been creeping back into their lives, such as pride, materialism, worldliness, immorality, lovelessness, heresy, disorderly Lords Table, partyism which is man worship of their leader's coursing divisions in the Church. So, these backsliding Christians are in great need of being purified, for as being members of Christ body and the temple of the Holy Spirit they must be Holy. They must repent and turn away from these sins, getting back into a right relationship with their God. He also gives doctrinal instruction and advice on spiritual gifts and tongues, the pre-eminence of Love and preaching, a women place in Church, and the resurrection.
