Elijah - 1 Kings 16; - 2 Kings 2; - A Man of Might and Miracles

Elijah was a fiery mighty man of God who did many miracles, who made a mark for God in his day and generation. Despite all the wickedness and evil around him he stood firm for God boldly speaking Gods word to the people. Though at times he felt his own weakness, but because God was his strength he obeyed and trusted in his God. But God knowing his weakness provided for him a companion Elisha to train up as his successor and to carry on Gods work in the future. Elijah was a unique and dramatic character rugged in appearance much like John the Baptist, Elijah was taken to heaven in a fiery chariot after faithfully serving his God to the end. Elijah finally was to appear alongside Moses where they talked with Jesus on the mount of Transfiguration.
